Motor/Config Problems. Mendel90 with RAMPS 1.4
January 02, 2014 05:35PM
Hello all,

I just got a Mendel90 kit without the melzi from Nophead. I decided I wanted to use a RAMPS 1.4 because I wanted an LCD. I have had a slightly difficult time getting it to work. I finally got it to home correctly. After homing, the X and Y axis won't move from pronterface.
I am using a newer version of Marlin than what nophead recomends because of the added lcd suppot.

Here are my config file:
Configuration.h:
#ifndef CONFIGURATION_H
#define CONFIGURATION_H

// Mendel90 hobbed bolt and 39:11 Wade's gears
#define E_STEPS_PER_MM ((3200 * 39.0)/(11.0 * 6.75 * 3.142))

// This configuration file contains the basic settings.
// Advanced settings can be found in Configuration_adv.h
// BASIC SETTINGS: select your board type, temperature sensor type, axis scaling, and endstop configuration

Re: Motor/Config Problems. Mendel90 with RAMPS 1.4

RAMPS has both min and max endstops but Mendel90 only has one switch per axis. You either need to put a jumper across the unused inputs or change the pin definition to -1 in pins.h. Otherwise it will think the MAX switch is triggered so won't move in the positive direction. Similarly for the min switch on Z.

You can put an LCD on a Melzi, you don't need a RAMPS for that.

Thanks for the reply.
After trying to enable the lcd on your version of marlin, I changed to repetier. Marlin wasn't compiling with the lcd enabled. I just gave me a few errors that I doubt a few hours trying to fix, then I just moved to repetier. It was super easy to custom setup using the wizard on the website.
It now seems to move perfectly.
I'll try printing tomorrow.

Thanks,
Nigel

Hey Nigel,
care to share your config file for repetier fw/ramps/mendel90?
strugling here to get things running, help is much appreciated.

Ok,anyone with a working configuration.h file/ramps1.4/repetier FW 0.91?
if not I'll start my ouwn thread.
Thanks!
