Sourcing Mendel90 parts

I have sourced almost everything to my mendel90, getting hold of the bolts and nuts has proven to be difficult, a ebay seller offered a set of bolts and nuts (for 12 mm mdf) for 45£. This seems expensive, any ideas?

If you're within the van delivery area (i.e. London) then [www.orbitalfasteners.co.uk] is a good source of low-volume fasteners (they sell individually if you want).

Once you add postage to the rest of the UK however then £45 from your eBay seller may not be such a bad deal.

Shipping to where I live is another 7.50£, the items are all stainless (not available in any other quality) which add to the cost.

See our advert here: [forums.reprap.org]

We are probably a bit cheaper, but not much, as there is a lot of labour counting out 100s of fasteners. Orbital stock most of the larger ones but not the smaller ones last time I looked.

The prices at Orbital are fantastic, shipping to Sweden might be a problem but I will certainly give them a call.
It is a bit frustrating the nuts and bolts turned out to be the most expensive part but as I plan to spend the holidays assembling I might have no choice.

In Germany the nuts and bolds prices are fairly low but the prices for t-slot nuts for Bosch aluminum extrusions are killing me, especially those Drop-in types with ball spring. I got 100 about two years ago for about ten Euro and now it costs at least 1,30€ per piece. But I didn't know back then, otherwise I had bought all of them and retired with the earnings by selling them one by one.

Ended up buying phillips at the local hardware store, probably spent 15£ in total.
The rods arrived today. I had ordered 8mm hardened ones but the diameter only measures 7.95mm which makes the LM8UU fit very loosely. The bearings fall by their own weight and there is a significant amount of play. Will this matter, one option could be to cut them open (lm8aj) and hope for a tighter fit. Any other advice expect replacing the rods?

The reason cap screws are specified for screws that go into nut traps is because the heads don't need to be pushed on to turn them. That would tend to push the nut out of its trap, so cross heads are more fiddly to assemble.

The rods should high precision hardened steel with h6 tolerance to get the correct pre-load. If they are too small the bearings might have some play. I don't know how you could fix that.
