Printing spare parts with Skeinforge not going well

Printing spare parts with Skeinforge not going well
December 25, 2014 02:27PM
First off all Merry Christmas to everyone!

I'm trying to slice the x idler bracket and x motor bracket with Skeinforge from within repetier host.
The parts look very bad. The left wall of the x idler bracket is completely missing and most of the layers are not there after slicing.

I have taken the settings found on the Mendel90 github for skeinforge from the profile found there.

Normally I do not use skeinforge and I know very little about it.
Hopefully someone can put me on the right path as I will need these parts to replace the originals.

Hi,

Take a look at this thread for my ABS profile suited to printing Mendel90 spare parts.

Regards,

Very intersting thread!

I'm using an 0.4 nozzle so I'm definetly going to try your profile.

I have printed the x idler bracket and I'm printing the x motor bracket now.

Print was finished in 2,5 hours wich is pretty good I think.
I only had to change the filament size to 1.75 and layer height 0.19375 wich is a value I got from Prusa's calculator.

Thnx alot!

Prusa's Calculator for what? What is the reason to come up with 0.19375 layer height?

Have a look at the page with the calculator here

Hi,

Both nophead's and my Marlin fork do not disable the Z motors so moving in whole steps is not required.

Hi Neil,

Thnx for pointing that out as I wasn't sure about this but he also wrote this:

This effect is occuring to some extent even while leaving the Z axis motors enabled.

In any case it doesn't do any harm. If my parts would give me bad results compared with the normal layer height I wouldn't be using it.

As microstepping may not be not as accurate as full steps the logic is to use layer heights that are a multiple of full steps. With M6 leadscrews that is 5 um but with M8 leadscrews it is 6.25um, hence the weird layer heights.
