Setting hotend or bed temperature causes disconnect

Hi everyone,

I'm a brand newbie, after having just assembled the Mendel90.

I've printed a couple of things and now I'm experiencing a disconnect issue. I think I've narrowed it down to when I set the hotend or hotbed temperature via the buttons in Pronterface. This error is shown:

Setting hotend temperature to 220.000000 degrees Celsius.
Can't write to printer (disconnected?).

Clicking on the tickbox "Monitor Printer" will also cause the disconnect. But, if I connect to the printer whilst already having this ticked, it doesn't cause any issues, except the graph/monitoring doesn't seem to work properly. Moving around the x, y or z axis is no issue.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Nathan

Possibly a bad ground connection between the melzi and the PSU.

Thanks for the suggestion NopHead.

Looks like you were right again! The ground had burnt out the connector on the Melzi. I'm replacing the connector, hopefully that'll fix the issue.

Sincerely, thanks for your help, greatly appreciated!
