Bed glass

Bed glass

In a recent print, I had a piece of glass broken away as I tried to unstick the part (it was the first time I used UHU glue!). For now the glass is OK because I turned it upside down and the other side is fine. Anyway I want to buy a spare part just in case.

Does the particular glass coming with Mendel90 have any special properties, or is it a regular 2mm glass? I never had any problems with it and I want to buy the same.

Also if you have any other suggestions please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi,

I buy regular 2mm glass from my local glass merchant.

For PLA I just use a Pure White Vinegar wipe before each print and for ABS I use ABS juice. Both of these hold the prints adequately without them being too difficult to remove.

I am tempted to try PEI film but all my regular sources are from the U.S. and very expensive. In the U.K. you have to use specialist suppliers and ask nicely for sample quantities (which I have yet to do).

Regards,
Neil Darlow

Thanks Neil. I will go to my local supplier then and see what I can find! I still use UHU stick and works really well for me. I just touch the UHU stick on a wet cloth 4-5 times and then wipe the bed with it and that's it. If they stick too much, I saw a tip somewhere (I think the original idea was from Chris?) to put the glass in the freezer and it works really well.

Thank you for the extra information! That PEI film looks really interesting. Please update us if you get the chance to use it.

Thanks again,
Demetris

The glass supplied with the kit is actually diffuse picture glass. That gives a nice matt finish on the prints. Plain glass works fine and gives a shiny finish. I don't notice any difference in adhesion.
