Fan Duct for Merlin Hotend on Mendel90

Hi,
i want to test the merlin hotend [reprap.org] with my mendel 90. Because the hotend is a little bigger than the j-head the original fan duct does not fit. I also use the silicon sleeve [www.thingiverse.com] which makes the heating block even bigger.

Is it possible to edit the fan duct that is has a bigger outlet and another offset? Which files i have to edit. I saw that in hot_ends.scad the parameters from the existing hotends are listed.

I never worked with openscad, it is a bit confusing to me.

Is there a step by step howto for me?

thx
Wolfgang

Hi.
Yes, you can edit the fan duct in openscad.
The files that you have to see are those related with the name of xcarriage inside the scad folder. In one of those nophead put the module (function) to make the model for the fan duct.

I thought editing the hotends properties instead of tweaking the fan duct is the better way or am i wrong.

If the extruder does not burn the fan duct, then the setup is ok

Have a look at my square nozzle fan on [www.thingiverse.com] . That gives a bit more clearance.
