No terminal window in Skeinforge
January 31, 2019 09:23AM
Installed Skeinforge in Ubuntu 18.04 and Debian 9 stretch. Everything seems to work but without any terminal window:

Any tips to solve this would be most welcome.

Not sure what you mean. I run it from a terminal window and it brings up a GUI and prints some commentary to the terminal I ran it from.

When i start from the terminal no new window opens, instead the process is ongoing in the same window. If I close the window i get no info, if I keep the window open and start slice the result in garbage. The trick seems to be to reset and clear the terminal window before loading the .stl file in the Skeinfoge window
Create a launcher in Menu editor seems to me as a better, and safer, way. Here both "Run in terminal" and Use startup notification" must be ticked.
Will test all of this on printer later.

On Windows or Linux I don't expect to get a new terminal window if I run a command from the terminal. The output should just go to the terminal it is started from.

Not sure what happens if I run it from the GUI. Some programs do open a new terminal then. I am not at home to try it.

I can't think why you would get garbage. Perhaps it is a character set problem.

Since the GUI launcher works i am satisfied.
Thanks anyway.
