Mendel90.. upgrade or replace?

I currently use a Mendel90 dibond, the original kit from nophead, pretty much stock setup with J-Head, Melzi board etc, only major difference is the spool holder..
Some printed parts (of the printer itself) are starting to crack, and it's fairly loud. However, it still prints pretty good.
Is it worth it upgrading to a new board (i.e. SKR 1.4) and steppers?
And how difficult and time consuming would that be?

Or should I just go straight for a newer printer? The latter option would have to be in the 300-400€ range at the very most.

IMHO new cheaper printer are made from junk components, eg delrin wheels on vslot that wear out in months.

I would go the skr 1.4 route.

Cant help with time... depends on your experience...

main 'issue' is melzi uses wires in screw terminals, skr uses plugs

That's one of the things that are making me consider whether to go that route or not.. I'd have to replace all cables or get a crimping kit.

I noticed the other day on aliexpress sellers selling cables with short wires. Ideal for joining to existing wires...

eg [www.aliexpress.com] (I believe they are JST HX2.54 connectors, but you should check that)

crimping is a PITA needs a good tool and lots of practice.
