Is it possible to subscribe to specific forums via email?

I would prefer to read the messages in the forums via my email reader rather than via a web site.

Well if your emailprogram can handle rss feeds (which most if not all can) then yes.
Or you can use any free rss reader available there's a nice overview (not really complete but good enough) here:

Then all that's left to do is add this link:
[dev.forums.reprap.org]

(all forums, all topics, with replies)

or if you like to be more specific:

where 33 is The Forum ID (in this case : "Forum Administration")
and 26911 is the Topic ID (in this case : this one)
this time without replies, which doesn't make any sense I guess... but it's still possible

Note:
you must include a Forum ID (at least 0 for all forums) but you don't need to have a Topic ID the

,replies=1

is optional to read the replies too,
otherwise you'll only have the NEW topics in your feed.

Thanks. I am aware of Google reader -- but what I would like would be for RSS feeds (specifically the ones for tracking messages on the RepRap forum) to be posted to my Gmail mailbox just as the other 3 or 4 mailing lists I read are posted. That way, I can keep one tab/window open to Gmail and simply read new messages and/or articles as they appear instead of having to keep one tab open for gmail, and one open for each reprap forum I would like to follow. At least with the RSS feed, I can keep one tab open in gmail and the other open in gmail reader (via igoogle, actually), but it's not the same as having all of my subscriptions delivered to one place.

I'm not complaining, I am just tossing out this "Gee, it would be nice if the world operated the way I want it to" comment in the hopes that somebody might read it and say, "But it does -- all you have to do is check the 'deliver RSS to gmail inbox' flag in the preferences panel".
