Does a Wiki admin exist? Do Private Messages work?

Sorry for asking so many questions right a few days after joining the RepRap forums, guys.

So I tried to fix the Motor Stepper Driver pages, e.g. [reprap.org] , by inserting the missing v1.1 version. This worked well for the history at the bottom of these pages, but the (more pretty) history at the top needs additional tweaks to get the links and the listed pages right. Can somebody help?

Which leads to the question who'd be sort of a contact person for technical Wiki issues. I tried to PM SebastienBailard with the above, as he has "RepRap Librarian" stated in his signature.

Which leads to the question wether PMs work at all. No, I don't expect Sebastien to answer within minutes, but my "Sent Items" post box in the forum is always empty, even after sending PMs.

P.S.: My Wiki user name is "Traumflug".

P.P.S.: The Wiki is an incredible detailed source of knowledge. Well done, RepRappers.

(1) Editing a wiki page, even a large and complex one, should not generally need a wiki admin to be involved. What exactly are you having difficulty doing? Can you be more specific about the problem? "The (more pretty) history" is a little vague as a wiki concept...

I am not sure if your question is "How do I make Mediawiki do X?", or "Mediawiki seems to be formatting Y incorrectly, it's manual says it should do Z but when I try that it does Q instead, how can I make it really do Z?", or if you are looking for someone to add some missing old historical information to a wiki page. If you can provide a clearer question, I can try attempt to help.

(2) Yes, wiki admins definitely exist. The primary active one at the moment is Seb. I have admin powers on the wiki too, but I don't often use them (more commonly, I just try to use sysadmin powers on the underlying server, to try and keep it running...) .

(3) Yes, private messages work fine on these forums. I've sent and received several in the last 24 hours. If you want, send me one as a test smiling smiley

By the way, PM's on these forums are only private messages here on the forums. They do not automatically send SMS messages to people's cellphones, etc. In other words, if someone you PM is busy or away from the forums for a few days, they will not read/reply to your PMs until they return here and choose to respond -- so patience is sometimes required.

If you really need something Reprap server-related done fairly urgently (for example, the whole wiki and forums are completely down and replaced by a porn site, or our servers are sending you a thousand spam emails an hour, or similar), then you might want to ask for help on our IRC channel, #reprap on irc.freenode.net, in case someone with relevant admin powers is online there.

When sending a PM, click the "Keep A Copy In My Sent Items" button to turn that on. grinning smiley

I'll take a look at that wiki issue soonish. Thanks for working on it with us, Markus.

My Sent Items has many messages in it... you do have to click that "Keep a copy" button, as Seb says, if you want to keep a copy, but PMs really do seem to work as advertized (for me, at least).

Of course. Looking at [reprap.org] , there's a "Motor Driver History" box right at the top of the article. A list with the available versions and a pair of previous/next buttons.

I (user Traumflug in the Wiki) edited the v1.2 page and the v1.0 page already to include v1.1. I changed the v1.1 page to include the history as well. The v1.1 page is recognized only partly, however. The "previous" button on the v1.2 page points to a page "...Driver_1.1" instead of the required "...Driver_1_1". Also, v1.1 is missing in the list of available versions (now 7, should be 8) .

As this box is created by some shortcut - you just enter a list name plus the previous and the next page to get the whole list - there must be some place to configure this shortcut. This is what I'm looking for. I don't even know how this "shortcut" is called in MediaWiki language, so it's a bit difficult to google for it.

This part is solved, thanks. It's a bit unusual for a forum to require explicitely setting a flag to gain standard behaviour, but now I've got it.

I've set up a second account "Traumflug" to check for myself and will remove the "Markus Hitter" one soon. Thanks to DaveR as well.

OK, thanks. Now I understand. I think the first issue is that the 1.1 page was not named using the same convention as all the others (1_1 instead of 1.1 at the end of its name). I just moved it so it matches the rest of the Stepper Motor Driver pages. That automatically adds a redirect for anyone accessing the page using its old name, so we do not have to do anything special to take care of that. Now we have the naming all consistent, the next/prev buttons should work as designed. (Note: in general, page moves should be used only when really needed... think about them for a while before doing them. But in this specific case, it seemed to me the right thing to do, so I "just did it" -- if I broke something, it can be moved back again later!).

Secondly, to add the 1.1 page to the list in the template, you just edit the template -- the list is not generated automatically, it is just a static text part of the template, no deep magic is happening with this at all. If you click Edit on one of these pages, you should see a list of all templates used by the page towards the bottom of the edit screen. You can then click on the one you wish to edit, in this case Template:Motor_Driver.

I just edited it to add the 1.1 version to the list -- please take a look at it, and let me know if I broke anything, or failed to change something you think still needs changing regarding this issue.

_This_ is the bit I was missing. Thanks a lot for helping, things look fine now.

I was wondering....

Is there a way to make this an option in the Control Center's Forum settings?

Because I always forget to click this option before sending a pm.

Thanks MB

MB: Making the default for "Keep a copy" configurable is almost certainly doable.

The Phorum software is open source, so we can change it to do our bidding, given enough time. This is probably a relatively small patch. However, this isn't a high priority for the core team... we're all busy people. If you can send me a working patch that adds this kind of capability, I'll definitely take a look at using it smiling smiley

It might be simple and quick to just hack the default to always "Keep a copy"... I wonder if anyone would complain about such a change?
