Corrupted posts -- please fix!
February 07, 2009 01:17PM
Hi there,
somehow all nonenglish characters are not allowed anymore;
even worse the rest of the posting isn't shown anymore.

Hopefully it's just a decoding problem and the database is still in complete.

Yesterdays hint on this subject:
[forums.reprap.org]

And today the german subforum is almost useless too.

If you need any help with that, just drop me a line,
made the same mistake once, I think I can fix it (faultless database presumed)

Please see

[forums.reprap.org]

Unfortunately the issue with MySQL compatibility causes the INSERT statement content to also be truncated. Since a part of the upgrade process is to dump all tables and re-insert into a new database, this obviously creates a major problem. Unfortunately, MySQL did not display any warnings that it was wilding truncating data.

Hi Simon,
is any old version of the sql available (that is, do you have any recent backup) ?

The problem there is mostly not what SQL does, but what php has done before.
I guess you've updated via php-scripts, didn't you.

As I noted in the report, adding a htmlencode to the message before it is written somewhere helps not to loose anything almost everytime; beyond that further steps are to be taken like escaping special characters and decoding some characters after reading from the database.
I can't recall which php version was the odd one, but it wasn't that long ago since they changed some functions (which made this error appear).

If you do have a backup of the old db please drop me a PM;
I may find a way out.
that is if you want me to help of course winking smiley

... is there any solution for repair of the truncated posts?

I found my stored PM's truncated too and most of the posts in the german forum are senseless now ...
