how to mark a topic CLOSED/SOLVED

Hi folks,
In the marlin forum i lurk in, when a topic is solved it is asked that it is
marked so by changing the subject.
Now i have been able to do this a few times but the vast majority of times i can not.

Now why can i can and can't do this reliably?

Oh, obviously this only applies to topics i've started.

... for different past problems I've limited the time, a post can be edited by the creator, to 48 hours eye rolling smiley

So if you want to change an older post or thread-name, you have to ask a mod -- e.g. flag your post and write your wish into the comment window ...
