Changing the name of a forum?

Changing the name of a forum?

The "Generation 4 Electronics Working Group" is less and less appropriate for the (small) amount of discussions doing on in there (we're now discussing Gen7).

Perhaps it should be called "Next Generation Electronics Working Group" instead? That way, it'll always be about the next generation of electronics, rather than the current one.

It also might eventually get the community out of the habit of numbering the "supposed" generations (since we seem to have skipped a couple).

One thing to think about though: Does renaming it break peoples subscription options (eg: new posts)? I've no idea, but it's easily testable by renaming one of the test forums first to see. If it's implemented decently, it won't, but I'm not an expert on Phorum.

If you look at the URL field in your browser you'll see forums are referenced by number, so renaming should keep all links working. I support your request.

Done. Forum is now called the generation n+1 electronics forum. This way they'll stop calling everything geneation n. smiling bouncing smiley

(I just wish they'd put a full reprap.org url on the boards. That hasn't happened since Generation 1. confused smiley)

Remember, you're all RepRap developers (once you've joined the super-secret developer mailing list), and the wiki, RepRap.org, [reprap.org] is for everyone and everything! grinning smiley

Also, you guys should do dev in reprap-dev. Not in a non-reprap-dev forum. Since you guys are dev?

Great, thanks. Well, actually we seem to have something like n+1...n+3, but that doesn't matter.

Experience from other communities is, some people prefer mailing lists, others prefer forums, many use both. Joining both with some Email-to-forum-and-back plug doesn't really work, because writing styles (e.g. amount of citing) differ substantially. Even among the same people.

Email is more "immediate", but feels limited in the number of topics at the same time. Forums are slower, but allow an unlimited number of topics and are better for showing pictures or researching older discussions.

Forums would be more immediate if the RSS output lag was reduced. It used to be less with the old forum.
