Overhangs - Parameter for good print without infill.

Hi,

i just printed this skull form thingiverse http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:441087/#files.

The print is ok, little adjustment for a first try..... but only the top of the skull isn´t good.

Any hints to avoid this for a print without infill?

I think what is happening there is to a large extent due to very short print times for each layer, so the plastic underneath isn't cold enough when the next layer comes. Try slowing down printing near the end, and/or increasing cooling. You can also try to increase the number of perimeters and solid top layers to give it a bit more surface to print on.

If you can't get it to come out right, you could print the lower part of the skull with no infill, and then print the top few millimeters or so with some infill and glue them together. Between layers, it can be done very very neatly.

Have you tried the "Only infill where needed" option?
Slic3r->Print Settings->Infill->Reducing printing time

I read about this option on the Slic3r blog

One less known option is Only Infill Where Needed: it will detect what upper parts of the object actually require infill for supporting the ceiling. For example, a dome only needs the central part supported: think of it like an internal support material. This saves time and material

Sound advice from jstck
I would not try to print this without infill or support

LeFabShop is a Makerbot distributor in France
LeFabShop's prints always look perfect

Coincidence? - no I don't think so..

This skull on the other hand is very printable, no support needed:
