What rod for a Tallerod?

Now that I have the time, I am revoking at making my OM2 taller, I did have all parts but the M5 rod of 567mm is simply too tall and to soft. It got bended even in the shipping.
What if I move to an M8 or M11? Where can i find the at decent price?
I guess I will need to recalculate all steps for the z axis also ...

I was looking at something like this as replacement for my Z [www.ebay.co.uk] there are plenty of similar ones on ebay.

This is 8mm per turn vs the 0.8 per turn for the original, but that still gives 0.04mm resolution with the standard 200 step Nema 17 motor.

I was lookign at something similar from misumi (somewhat too expensive)
