Belt splicing?

Belt splicing?

Anyone know how to make a closed loop belt using T2.5 as supplied on the ormerod? I'm considering a (radical) departure from the current Y table and would like to use a closed loop with a tensioner to remove sources of Y error. Maybe just having two working end-clamps would be enough [edit] rahter than one end working end-clamp and a meshed clamp as at present[/edit], but any hints on splicing would be interesting

The belt is MXL (2.032mm tooth pitch), not T2.5. I'm not sure how to join the belt if you don't want a twist in it. nophead pioneered this method in the reprap world: [hydraraptor.blogspot.co.uk]

Hi Ray,
this method could be adapted with your 3D printing skills. [www.reprap.org]

I have used Igus linear slides and from memory they clamp the belt against a metal tooth part that slides in a slot to keep the belt engage a long screw through the toothed metal part pulls the belt into the slide to tension the belt. I didn't find a picture, but I'll sketch it for you if the above is not clear.

Hi treth, thanks for that - splicing does look increasingly redundant! I ordered some slides from igus earlier as it happens for my reworking of Y. I didn't go for any of their belted options tho , just a metre of profile (25 quid) and some carriages at a fiver each

Cheers
