Following on from the excellent upgrade for the bed support, I put requests out for having the acrylic x-rib and plate cut from 5mm aluminium.
This is probably not going to work as the lowest I can supply both parts for would be around £90 !
It will likely be cheaper for laser cutting and I will get prices today.
I was pretty surprised at the price though.

It should be nowhere near that price. I run a small business laser cutting parts for Model Engineers, I cut out the two y axis end plates in 5mm Aluminium for £7 each, The acrylic cracked. I also made some 1mm shims in steel as the ground steel bars were too long for the aluminium extrusion. At the moment I cannot get the Z axis to zero consistently, looks like the bed is not parallel to the X axis. Anyone else had that problem?

I did think it was very high, maybe they just don't need the work at present?
Should have laser cut prices tomorrow hopefully.
If you still have the mdf bed support then the z axis will not zero nicely, it moves and twists a lot. The aluminium bed is a revelation, I have printed three top notch jobs since fitting one and have not made an adjustment yet, just zero the head and print, I'm not using bed compensation either.

Good news, I have some prices now for these parts...
Would be laser-cut, screw assembly not tabs as per acrylic items.
5mm aluminium with a grained finish as the bed plates.
Supplied with 6 M3 screws for assembly and self-adhesive stainless steel tape for the bearing running area for use if desired.
Cost for the pair would be £40 plus p&p at cost depending on weight / destination.
Is there any interest in pursuing this project??

It would be slightly more but with the increased z-nuts most are using, I dont think it will be an issue, some have also changed to trapezoidal screw and there would be no issue at all for them.
What we dont want to do is fit lightening holes as that will compromise rigidity i feel.

Sensibly done, lightening holes won't have a huge effect on rigidity IMV.
However, I have the trapezoidal leadscrew on Z, so I'm not fussed either way

Yes, with the new bed support, I do not use compensation either, It's not like it will 2kg heavier, just grams really.
Reasonable calculations show it to be twice as heavy, around 330gm for the assembly.
I doubt losing a few grams by adding holes is going to make too much difference, the rib can be holed in 4 places but the plate is not so easy.
Probably safest to go with the solid items, less risk of incurring warp during cutting as well.

Thanks, request noted, but please note that I'm not offering the y end plates (unless of course there is a good demand) as they seem adequate in acrylic, pretty benign parts I think.

Order has been placed, should be ready next week.
Can we get a consensus on screw types please, the rib is secured to the plate with 6 M3 screws, I'm not sure if these can be cap-head (preferred) or need to be countersunk heads??
One of them is the Z axis runner bearing bracket mount so that screw is already supplied, but the other 5 are not on the acrylic version.
