150 x 45 x 40mm angle alu, a few holes, a bit of milling for the belt and y-micro switch, nothing to it really

Erik

Hi Erik, these look great, but "....,a few holes, a bit of milling for the.....", for those of us without the milling, I presume that this could be just drilled alu angle and a bit of filling (for slots)?
Would not look nice like yours, but would be robust!

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Treth

Exactly! - you took the words right out of my keyboard as I just this minute was working on a cunning plan how to convince Dave to make these aviable for everyone as I find they make a big difference in stability and prinability - a great return of a small investment me think - made a fast and furious print last night at 100mm/s (did not measure the speed so.. but sliced it that way)

No it don't have to be milled at all, the cut-outs could easily be drilled oversize as there is no problem with strength as with the acrylic pars, notice that the cut-out for the belt on these are made in two - as not to weaken the parts too much - no such problem with the alu

The hardest part is to drill the countersunk holes for the screws in the y-extrusion, these holes have to be drilled accurately as to make the extrusion and the end parts act as one piece, the precision of the rest of the holes are not so important and could be drilled slightly over sized, the T-nut in the bottom of the extrusion will self-center and regarding the holes for the acrylic part - you will want to open those holes (in the acrylic parts) anyway as to be able to adjust and make the y-rods perfectly parallel - I made the inner holes near the extrusion at size and the outer ones oversize for adjusting

.and the profile is not that important standard 45x45 or 50x50 would be fine and the final contour can be finished by the users if they so chose - BTW, it's not my idea others have done this before

Att Dave: pretty please, with a cherry on top....two cherries?

smiling smiley LOL

Thinking some more, it might be ok, I am away this weekend for a couple of weeks, when I get back I will apply some serious thought to creating these feet in ally.

Can't say more than that, even with two cherries winking smiley

Hi Dave

How about adding these to you alu-offers, they will make the ormerod transportable, the y-axis stable and the y-belt able to go "ping"

150 x 45 x 40mm angle alu, a few holes, a bit of milling for the belt and y-micro switch, nothing to it really

Erik
I really would want a pair of these :-/ I always considered those acrylic ends the second weakest point (after the mdf bed).

I just found out, that a lot of my Z-trouble was caused by a cracked X-Plate. Luckily CA-glue goes pretty well with acrylic - but I don't expect it to last more than a few days confused smiley

I would very much like to buy a new alu-set from you, @Davek0974

I'll send you a PM soon.

Thanks for doing all this work - I know how much time it can take.

Best regards,

Carsten

Hi,
I am going to the post office tomorrow...
I got my X-rib kit in the mail today. Looking forward to assemble it, but - where is this 1x31cm metal strip supposed to go?

It's an option, you can stick it where the x axis bearing runs if wanted, it's harder wearing than the ally.

Clean the metal with a solvent first though and watch it, the edges are razor sharp!

If used it must be stuck on flat, any ripples will jump the head around.

If off in a minute on holiday so good building,.....

See you all in two weeks

I got mine today - pretty quick for a shipment from UK to Denmark.

It looks great - edges just needs a bit of sanding.

Thanks Dave, for shipping so quickly.

Carsten

Mine arrived today, thanks Dave.

Had to elongate one hole a tad, but looks great, I'm in the middle of a long print right now but may try and fit it later.

Enjoy your break.

How did I miss this thread?
Dave, any chance you have a spare x axis kit and bed upgrade lying around still, would be postage to Australia.
Thanks smiling smiley

Hi Dave, I've just bought one of your beds, and I'd like to collect it next week sometime on my way up North. I haven't decided the date I'm traveling yet.
Would that be ok? If not then I'll pay for postage to Dover,Kent.

I'm in the process of producing a stiffener for the Z-axis as my machine both travels allot (so gets knocked about) and I have to lift it by the Ally profile.
If I measured up and produced an STL would it be possible to get one cut on your machine?
To give you an idea of size, ti would run from the top of the Z-axis to the back of the Y, bolting on instead of the spacers behind the power box.

Regards,
Kim..

Hi Kim,

Will need to know what time you would like to collect, as it will alter where I am, also what day, weekends are a bit awkward.

Will need to see design of the part first
