Big Blue (Revised) tongue sticking out smiley

Big Blue (The BackWash free Fan-Duct), has been revised and released (Mk3Rev2) on ThingiVerse.
A major redraw has been done, and the Fan-Duct is now printed Verically.
If you deside to print Big Blue, use a low temp around 180'c for the HotEnd, and a 10mm Brim to help hold
the Duct on the table while printing. On the test print I also tried the Wipe on Retract for the first time with DC42s Firmware
installed, and the results have been first class, even with some speed increases in the settings.
During the test print, a couple of areas were found where Slic3r was struggling.
Mainly where there was Horizontal surfaces inside the duct. To assist Slic3r I've also added a few internal knee plates
and stringers to support these surfaces while printing.

(BTW This is Big Blue in Candy Red.... I'm not colour blind.... My Blue Filament seems to have got damp.....But a semi transparent Fan-Duct looks pretty
cool....) smiling bouncing smiley

With the Big Blue Duct you can now decide how much cooling you want around the Nozzle area.

If people wish I'll edit the design to allow the fitting of DC42's probe which will allow the probe to be screwed directly to the duct without the
need for an add on adapter plate. Let me know..

Big Blue goes a Little Welsh.... 1/5th Scale (20%) of the original... Done as a test to see what the cooling was like..
Perfectly Formed @35mm/s Printing...150mm/s Transport.
180'c / 65'c
0.8A on the stepper motors...

Looks good Kim, I am curious how long it took to print though. I got really ambitious last night and printed my PSU cover, which is 115 x 51 x 80 and 2mm thick. I mistakenly started it at 7pm, thinking that it might take 2 or 3 hours. It finished at 4.30am this morning. eye popping smiley Worst still I made a couple of mistakes with the holes and it really needs reprinting.

Regards,

Les

Hi Kim.
That looks great.
Not wanting to take liberties, but if you had the time to add DC42's sensor board (with a clip for the ultrasonic sensor) I will forward you 1000 internets.
Or if you wanna chuck files over I can relieve you of the duty.
Again, looking good pal.
Teddy.

LoL...ok,ok,ok... I give in... I'll mod the design to include a mount for DC's probe, as well as the original probe.

What bed gap would you like when the nozzles on the glass?

As for printing times it machine specific... Mine took about 1 1/2hrs because I have speeded up the settings in Slic3r now.
A standard machine might take 4hrs roughly.

I'll start altering the design to fit DCs probe later today.

Ok, well Big Blue has been Modded to allow for DC's probe...
I just have to get the mounting holes in the correct place...... Then test print it....

Ok well the re-work to fit DC's probe on seems to have gone quicker than I thought.

I now have to test print it, and check it out, but hopefully it should be on ThingiVerse tomorrow for those people that would like one.
Note in the picture, the support walls are hiding the cooling ports.

Just released on Thingiverse.
Plain standard size Nozzle Mount with no countersunk holes in the top for the screws.....
(For those of us that are using plain Allen Screws).

Just released on ThingiVerse.
Replacement Nozzle Mont (Plain... No countersunk top holes)... 1mm Lower to give extra clearance for the Original Probe.

It's finished....... Praise the Lord. (I'll be struck down by lightning now)..... eye rolling smiley
Ok it's ON ThingiVerse.... Togeather with the Grill which makes it look good to....

Tomorrow I will be testing a New Feature that I've built into this version of Big Blue.....smoking smiley

Big Blue now accepts ALL of DC42's Probes..... No adapters required....
Just Print, clean up, and fit....

I would suggest sealing the heat Sink with something like 5min Apoxy or silicon.... Or spit from next doors cat if you like......
The cooling is controlable via the Exhaust Pipe, and I hope to be adding some push in nozzles to allow you to direct the cooling air where you want it....

Hope you enjoy it... It took me about 3 1/2 to 4 hrs to print......

First there was Big Blue....

Big Blue for DC42's probes....

Now it accepts two fans, for twice the puff....

With enough air flow you could almost use it as a hand dryer.....
And it's all variable by using the Exhaust Metering Plates...
Just download Big Blue for DC42's probe, and it's tall enough to accept the twin fans, one on top of the other, as and when your ready to upgrade.....
(If you've downloaded Big Blue for DC's Probes, then you already have the twin fan version).

The exhaust metering plates are ready for test printing, and will be on ThingiVerse within 24 hours.....

Also, I will be removing the two internal supports in the HeatSink chamber which appear to be causing the chambers top to warp a little.
In the mean time, if your print suffers from this, you can straighten the warp using a top laundry iron and a sheet of paper.

Enjoy
Kim..

Big News here.....
I did a Bridging test with the Big Blue (two Fan) Fan-Duct.
Both Bridges were inline with the X-axis and the Fan-Duct Exhaust pipe was closed using the Full Metering Plate.... i.e. Full air cooling on the cooling ports...
Big Blue passed with flying colours on both the 30mm bridge and the 60mm bridge......cool smiley
^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^

The bridges were both raised on 5mm high pillars, 5x5 square.... The span BETWEEN the pillars (the unsupports span) was 30mm and 60mm.
On the 60mm span you will see two threads.... One thread is where the skirt hadn't stuck to the glass, because I hadn't cleaned it and it grabbed a pillar when I pulled it out, and the other fine thread from the top is where I've stopped the print, as it's late and I need some sleep....
Tomorrow I'll try a 100mm span, or maybe more.... (This was done using PLA @180'c inline with the X-axis where it would get the full benifit from the cooling).

Looking great. I've just come back to this forum having been printing away happily for the last couple of months... This looks like a great mod, but I don't fully understand it... What's the plastic enclosure to the right of your photo? Looks like it's housing a PCB of some sort? Is this also required? Any chance of a photo of big blue mounted to the machine for the dumb among us?! Thanks,
Squags
