Collecting Ormerod owner's improvements together
May 05, 2014 11:42AM
I've created a page on the reprap.org wiki, to collect improvements, and have populated it with a couple of entries. I think this is better as a community-driven page, rather than relying on me to put it in the Ormerod instructions, though I will link to it from there. Feel free to add more!

There is also an Ormerod page, that has very little added to it. It was put up as a place holder, but we haven't got around to adding to it. I've linked the improvements page on that page.

A few things have been added to the wiki page... I'm just bumping this thread to remind people to add more!

Fiddler, I think you just use the same login you have in the forums to login to the wiki. Once logged in, there should be an 'Edit' tab at the top of the page. I think you can't add external links for the first 10 times you edit, but can after that - that's to stop people making wiki pages with external links to sell pharmaceuticals or whatever. But I think you can add links to the forum. So post a thread about your change (which can have external links, pictures, and host the files), and link to that in the improvements page, then people looking for a particular improvement see the conversation around it. I think is a good way of going about it anyway, or the improvements page becomes long and unmanageable.

Hope that helps.

Ian,

Unfortunately you have to create a separate account to edit the wiki it seems.

Yeah, and there are also some strange restrictions. For example, I had to make a bunch of "dummy edits" to the sandbox to be able to do external links (which requires an "edit count" >= 5).

Some of the captchas were way beyond my capabailities too. Still.. the fight against spammers must continue I guess!

@Andy - ah, okay, thanks for the info, it's been a while since I created an account!
@jstck - It's an attempt to stop spam, as I said. Most wikis do something similar, through captchas, limiting edits and/or having edits checked by a moderator before being accepted. Such is the times we live in...
