List of crimps used in Ormerod
May 13, 2014 06:45PM
I was doing this for a customer on email, so I thought I would share as it comes up occasionally, and for my own easy reference...

All motor, hot end, probe and endstop connections to the Duet are 1800-T crimps, from Toby [www.toby.co.uk] , but Toby is only good for buying in bulk. These might differ slightly from the supplied crimps and housings, but it's what is specified on the CAD drawing!

The RS equivalent crimps and housings are:
Crimp (this is the gold one, there is a marginally cheaper all tin version): [uk.rs-online.com]|acc
2-way housing: [uk.rs-online.com]
3-way housing: [uk.rs-online.com]
4-way housing: [uk.rs-online.com]

Hot end connector, wiring loom side:
Female crimp: Molex 43030-0010 - [uk.rs-online.com]
2x3-way Male housing: Molex 43020-0600 - [uk.rs-online.com]

Hot end connector, hot end side:
Male crimp: Molex 43031-0010 - [uk.rs-online.com]
2x3-way Female housing: Molex 43025-0600 - [uk.rs-online.com]

The same crimps are used for the heated bed thermistor connection, but the housing is this one:
2-way Male housing: Molex 43020-0200 - [uk.rs-online.com]
2-way Female housing: Molex 43025-0200 - [uk.rs-online.com]

This crimping tool will be VERY useful: [www.rapidonline.com]

Heated bed connectors (2.54mm pitch IDC connector) from [www.toby.co.uk]:
2x13 (26-way) - part number 101-W-26-R1
2x6 (12-way) - part number 101-W-12-R1

Closest RS version for 2x13 (26-way): [uk.rs-online.com]
I can't find a 2x6 (12-way) on RS, but maybe this 2x8 (16-way) would fit: [uk.rs-online.com]
If anyone can find a 2x6 (12-way), please link.

You can probably get all the above from Farnell if you prefer. The wire crimps, and plug that goes in to the motor seem to be a bit of a one-off; I'm sure they exist, but I haven't found them yet!

Thanks for posting this Ian, I was going to ask about the IDC connectors as I want to redo my ribbon cable at some point.

Regards,

Les

Farnell also has 12-way IDC connectors, I think suitable ones would be [uk.farnell.com] (without strain relief) and [uk.farnell.com] (with strain relief).

Personally, I would use 30A solid core ring main cable or your local equivalent instead of the loudspeaker wire. Then you won't need the ferrules or the crimp tool to fit them.

Would this be a suitable ribbon cable? If not could someone post a link to something better?

Regards,

Les

Yes, it's exactly the right cable. 1.27mm spacing (1/20 inch) and AWG28 copper.

Best regards,

Carsten

I think the plugs that go into the motors are a Chinese knock-off of the JST-PH connector series: [www.jst-mfg.com]
The white connectors has the letters H-JSY printet - probably from [www.jsyconn.com]

Any 2mm pinheader connector should fit the motors.

I hope I'm right - I haven't checked smiling smiley

Best regards,

Carsten

Thanks Carsten.

I'll order a couple of metres to play with.

As an update, Ormerod 1 (and 2) motor connections:

We use a copy of the JST-PH crimp: [www.toby.co.uk] and housing: [www.toby.co.uk] (this is our supplier), but these are only available from them in bulk and from the UK. The following should be compatible:

The housing on the motor is this one: [uk.rs-online.com]
The housing that plugs into it is this one: [uk.rs-online.com]
The crimp is this one: [uk.rs-online.com]

Though as Carsten said, I think pretty much any 2mm pitch housing will fit.

The hotend connect is a Molex Microfit 3.0 which should be available from [za.rs-online.com].
