Web interface help...
June 13, 2014 01:30PM
Hi all, I've finally made the switch to using the web interface, was using the python pronterface before on a laptop but that had to go back to work so here's my new setup....

I have XP running in a virtual machine on my mac box, in this I am running slic3r which is ok. I then use the Mac safari browser to connect to the printer via my home LAN.

It all seems ok, the browser will connect, home, set temps etc and I'm just running a test print now, this was uploaded to the SD card via the drop button in the browser.

Firmware version is 057ydc42

Questions....
The print status page does not update, is this normal?

How do you stop a print once started?

Can you print from the browser or is all SD card only, no problem there, just wondering?

Is there a better option to my setup?

Thanks

Hi Dave

You could run the mac version of slic3r on the mac.

Hi Davek, that version of firmware is rather old now. I suggest you upgrade to 0.65f-dc42 and web interface 0.90.

To print from the browser, use the 'Upload & Print' button. To stop a print, press Pause followed by Reset. On the older firmware that you are running, Pause may not take effect for some time if a 'wait' command such as M116 is being executed.

PS your aluminium bed support and X-plate are working really well for me.

Thanks for that.

I take it I'll need a direct USB link to upgrade the firmware still?

Not sure I can do that from within a virtual machine

The x arm really firms up that axis, not much more could be done in that area I think, I find if I knock the arm, the machine moves before the arm flexes smiling smiley

Yes you need a USB link to upgrade the firmware. Is there not a version of Arduino and bossac for the Mac?

There sure is.

Latest version, 1.5.6-r2. Have successfully used this myself:
[downloads.arduino.cc]

The guide I found for eclipse said you should still use 1.5.4, but that should only matter if you are building firmware:
[downloads.arduino.cc]

bossac is a little bit hidden away, in /Applications/Arduino.app/Contents/Resources/Java/hardware/tools/bossac

Some early versions of 1.5.5 were problematic building firmware due to a bug when switching analogue channels for conversion. That did get patched and I find 1.5.6 is also fine for building firmware. You still need to apply the extra library patches specific to this firmware.

Woohoo!

I've now upgraded the firmware and web interface as suggested, all working well, very impressed.

Also downloaded the osx version of slic3r and got that running, much better and I'm now all mac based.

One issue I had with the web interface was that the first little test file I dropped started printing immediately, ignoring the pre-heat and wait m-codes in the file.
Hitting the stop button worked but then what?
I found the interface locked and unresponsive, rebooting the ormerod and loading the browser got me back in control so all was ok in the end.

That print has just finished and will cool it down and try again.

Dave

The Stop button sends the emergency stop code, and the only way out of an emergency stop is a reset. See [reprap.org]. That's why the state is displayed as Halted when you have done an emergency stop. If the stop is less urgent, you can use the Pause button instead, followed by the Reset button.

As for the pre-heat and wait commands being ignored, the change in extruder head numbering from 0 to 1 may have something to do with it. In particular, if you are using M104 or M109 to set the extruder temperature, then you need to send a T1 command first to select the extruder.

Great, reset understood.

Can you give an example of the T1 command as I am indeed M104

Just T1, that's it. You may already have a T1 command in your slic3r custom gcode, but it may be at the end instead of near the beginning.

Great, I'll add that in

It is definitely waiting for the bed and not waiting for the head so that should fix it smiling smiley
