Minimum power supply requirements to print with Argh!!!
December 28, 2015 05:20PM
Hello All,

Whats the minimum power supply requirements for the Ormerod? 12V how many Amps is the minimum required? I had a night in on my own and wanted to get the 3D printer up and running at home, having moved it from my office before Christmas, so I can try out the new wood fillament!... only to find by blowing up the power supply that one of the kids had placed a screw into the power supply! = Nice bright messy short. So I need to try and get one tomorrow, hence whats the minimum I can get away with using heated bed, single extruder/hot end.

Thanks

Hi

there should be a label on the PSU?
I don't know the value but they are a bog-standard PC PSU AFIK

A bigger one will do no harm.

Retired now but I used to make....
CNC Machined Mk1 aluminium bed support plates for the Ormerod
CNC machined X-plates and ribs for Mk1 & Mk2 Ormerods
CNC machined bed support arms for the Mk2 Ormerod.
Dual Hot-End heatsink blocks.

this is the original: [reprappro.com] so anything above 20A is fine.

Ah, Mk1 or Mk2 was not mentioned, I presumed a Mk1, apologies.

Heated Bed: Up to 120W. Every nozzle around 50W. Stepper motors I do not know, I guess something about 3W each.
If you want to buy a new one you should buy something about 300W or 360W, but bewae the dimensions are bigger.

Slicer: Simplify3D 4.0; sometimes CraftWare 1.14 or Cura 2.7
Delta with Duet-WiFi, FW: 1.20.1RC2; mini-sensor board by dc42 for auto-leveling
Ormerod common modifications: Mini-sensor board by dc42, aluminum X-arm, 0.4 mm nozzle E3D like, 2nd fan, Z stepper nut M5 x 15, Herringbone gears, Z-axis bearing at top, spring loaded extruder with pneumatic fitting, Y belt axis tensioner
Ormerod 2: FW: 1.19-dc42 on Duet-WiFi. own build, modifications: GT2-belts, silicone heat-bed, different motors and so on. Printed parts: bed support, (PSU holder) and Y-feet.
Ormerod 1: FW: 1.15c-dc42 on 1k Duet-Board. Modifications: Aluminium bed-support, (nearly) all parts reprinted in PLA/ ABS, and so on.

Personally, I wouldn't replace the PC power supply with another PC power supply. You'd be better off replacing it with a 'proper' PSU.
