There was that 18. I would also have to relook the hole positions and the placement of the IR-LEDs.

Treito no problem if you don't have a STEP file, I will design my own version of the E3D mount with provision for the mini sensor, that way I can remove the extra bits which are not necessary such as the mount posts for the large sensor, LED mount etc..

Thanks I found it already, but where is the position of the LEDs? I would prefer to hit the sensor board in the middle.

Brian I am wondering if it's necessary to make both a mounting option? I would provide a small part for the existing mountings. Also for the Ormerod 1.

Hi Treito, just a STEP file will do.

If you enlarge the image you can see the two IR projecting LEDs to the right and the receiver to the left of centre so that the detection point is in the middle of the board.

Okay I can provide it when I am at home later. I made a different PCB design where I assumed the sensor positions so I will take this. I would have preferred to verify the positions, but never mind.

So I provided the step-files as requested. I took a short look on how to make a small piece to mount the sensor board without changing the nozzle mounting itself. However I am a little bit afraid of the condenser so I wouldn't be good to do a quick and dirty design. Even though I guess only something about 1000mm material will be needed only I would prefer to do a good quality design or at least two as I need a slightly other design for the One-piece-fanduct designed by the master himself: dc42. Luckily it seems that both designs would be good with the same height so there would be only a difference in Y-direction. So I would like to print a model of the board itself first (outer dimensions, holes and condenser) to be sure that the condenser is not hitting the M5-rod.

@dc42 can you please tell me how deep is your condenser? I would guess something about 11mm? Do you provide a mounting bracket for your big sensor boards for the quick-set of the Ormerod 2? Do I need a black paper underneath a PrintBite surface?

Sorry we've just moved and the IR boards are still packed.up. I think the capacitor is about 8mm tall. Add 1.2mm for the PCB to get the total height.

The sensor works well on PrintBite, no backing needed.

I know that you are moving. I am also thinking if the capacitor should head to the nozzle or to the sensor pad. I think that the last option would be better.

I suggest mounting the board with the back just a few mm from the heater block and the capacitor towards the sensor pad.

I have a geckotek on order for my ormerod2 so I'm very interested!

As it uses a steel plate, I was planning to use a cheap ps-05n inductive sensor. I use them on my cnc router and they are very reliable.

Am I missing something here?

I cannot live or at least print without PrintBite. grinning smiley However to be fair there are rumours at the German FB groups (and I think they are true) that PrintBite is some sorft of a ordinary FR4 piece. However PrintBite is equipped with a special pattern on the surface and the ordinary FR4 needs to be sanded before you can use it and the PrintBite gives you a pattern..

@dc42 Like I thought, many thanks for the answer. However my Ormerod 1 uses your one piece fan duct. I will check it with a later model if there is enough space to place the PCB underneath your mounting holes. I would do this also for my own design. That would give me the possibility to move the PCB back a little bit. Can you send me an offer to pay via Paypal or will this be done if the batch is ready?

Surely mounting the mini sensor in front of the heater block will not put it in a position where it can move over the pad for homing the X axis?

you have to mount it on the side where I already prepared the mountings for the big sensor board. In a few days I would either prepare a mounting bracket for my holder or I will do a new one.

Hi GroundAttack,

The Geckotec build plates are very good, if anything they are too good. I have trouble removing ABS prints and have needed to slip a knife under them which of course risks damaging the surface, also the nozzle height above the bed is critical, you will need to get that as accurate as possible. I certainly don't mean to put you off buying one though, I have the HT model and love it.

Brian, thanks. I already found them, but like I said some circumstances are not clear for me. I don't want to design something without knowing if it works. For example if I displace the part the condenser may hit the threaded rod. Or I am not sure if the PCB board really fits underneath my mountings on the nozzle holder. Theoretically it should work do I could place the PCB directly nearby the nozzle, but it would be s tight fit. So I would prefer to print a simply model first to be sure that it fits. As there is still plenty of time for the designing because the batch will not be ready I would take a little bit more time for it to get a good design and not a design that works somehow.
