I am not a qualified electrician, but this is my understanding. You need to ground the chassis if there is any risk of mains wiring coming into contact with it.

Most homebuilt 3D printers run everything from a 12V supply so that the only mains wiring is in the PSU. In this case, only the PSU needs to be grounded. If you use an ATX PSU then this is automatic if you use a 3 pin plug. If you use a LED-type PSU then it has a ground connection on the mains input side.

However, if your printer has a mains-powered heated bed, then you need to ground the bed plate and any other metal parts that are anywhere near the mains wiring.

and does grounding the chassis lower electrical noise/ interferences?
