The full sized version seems way too powerful for a 3d printer fire, but a miniature version would put out the fire, not sure it would save the printer.

there is a similar "device" for home use, called Stovetop Firestop.
I made a mount for my Wanhao [www.thingiverse.com]

Good idea, its certainly a good measure to consider for unattended printing.
