Non-square core xy?

Non-square core xy?

Hi,

I was wondering, is it possible to make a core XY with a rectangular print area? I quite like the idea of building a printer with 2 standard heat beds side by side to give a 400x200mm area, but I don't remember ever having seen such a layout. Being able to print the occasional long thin object without going to the expense (and space!) of a 400 mm2 print area seems like a win to me.

[www.instructables.com] Looks like it should not be a problem.

Hi,

Mine is rectangular, there's no issue.
But it still needs to be square (not out of square) winking smiley

That's great news - many thanks.

I built Carl's CBOT on Openbuilds [www.openbuilds.com]
and modified it to make it narrower but I kept a 12x12 platform.
I also changed the platform to 3 screws instead of his cantilever design.
His std builds list 8x8, 12x8, 12X12.
So if u r good with a CAD program, it should be a piece of cake.
I guess if u r not, u could try scaling what he has to 400x200.

Interesting idea. Thanks for sharing your idea / question.

For what it's worth, I'm working on a triple-leadscrew version of the C-Bot using a 320x250 bed and 500mm leadscrews.

I didn't quite use Carl's calculations, I drew it out in Blender, so the frame dimensions are currently 580mm x 340mm x 640mm.

Carl's spreadsheet, however, does allow you to enter the size of your heatbed, and it will generate a BOM for you, since it's a very scalable design.

For the size of your bed, I'd look at the triple-c bot at openbuilds.org.

@grat
if u r using the openbuilds leadscrews - a note of caution........
they r very poor quality cuts and only work with their Delrin nuts - if u try to use them with brass nuts per the design brackets u will have to file the whole length of the screws to make them work. -- they sent me 3 and finally sent one with the delrin nut.
they were all bad. They were the 1M ones. other lenghts could be different.

Appreciate the heads-up... Was considering the openbuilds, with their delrin blocks... But the zentoolworks leadscrews have turned down ends, and seem to be slightly higher quality. Haven't ordered either yet. smiling smiley

if u use the delrin block u r ok with the OB screws
the brass nuts need a higher quality screw.
