E3D Hemera Direct Kit or Bowden V6 for Sapphire Plus?

E3D Hemera Direct Kit or Bowden V6 for Sapphire Plus?
December 20, 2020 10:29AM
Hi,
Should I upgrade Sapphire Plus to E3D Hemera Direct Kit, Bowden V6 or maybe something else?
I'm concerned that a moving mass of about 400 grams may cause ringing.
BTW, aren't 6mm belts, to narrow, for such massive machine?
Thanks

If the printer is rigid enough you'll be fine.

I just switched from Bowden to direct.
I'm happy with the change back to direct drive. Bowden was fun, but prefer direct.
Having 1.5mm vs 5mm retracts have seemed to make a good difference with zits.
I used a pancake stepper with 18 ozin and a BMG Dual Drive Clone Extruder. (has a 3:1 gear reduction)
Print speeds at 60mm/sec. All is good!

Side Note. my full size nema 17 is about 12.5 ounces (352g). This pancake is about 4.2 ounces. (121g)
I never weighed the whole extruder setup though...

Hi, how about an orbital extruder, well below 200 gr?

If you want to print flexible filament, Bowden is out.

Actually... I'm working on an idea right now that could change that. I'm considering posting it in the "Let's design something" Thread, but that seems to be particularly barren. I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'll post somewhere else and then edit this with a link.
