Forum totally dead?
July 15, 2025 12:21PM
Is there a new forum where everyone is hiding out, these days? I thought, based on the amount of information I found in my searches, that THIS was the place with all the knowledgable people. Now, I'm wondering if there is a new, different forum where everyone is gathering? 86 people viewed my post, and not one reply? That just makes it seem like the people with the answers are no longer coming around here?

If anyone knows of another forum where I might seek some help, it would be much appreciated. :-)

The age of built it yourself is dead and burred under layers of dead creality printers.

Only a few "die hards" remain.

That made me laugh, and suddenly sad at the same time. I know in a lot of ways you are speaking truth, but I also like to hold out hope for the continuing creativity that built the industry/market into what it is today. I guess I need to find the forum where those crusty, old, die-hards like me, are hanging out.. :-)
Thanks for the reply, and the funny, yet somber chuckle.

... there still are some "hardcore" DIYers -- but only in "local" circles, where the (most chinese) copycats won't find smoking smiley

I am here every day though the temperature is way too high to add any extra heat inside this old house.

so nothing to post really.

... the last months I'll get around 4-5 "new users" per week, asking for clearance (sometimes up to 3 per day) ... but no initial posts or other activity eye rolling smiley

I completely understand that, I've been thinking about building a workbench out in the barn and setting some printers up out there so I don't have to heat up the house. :-)

... i'm actually mainly focussed on lasers (and some nanotech), so pretty seldom with FDM-printing.

But busy too, assembling/building a "metal FDM" with metal wires, melted/fused by lasers, melting only the contact point cool smiley

I have a few different laser setups, but I haven't messed with them very much.
I want to I just haven't had the time..or haven't made the time.

... for me the laser-stuff was part hobby, part job - actually searching some company or institute for a "serious" methode around LIFT (Laser Induced Forward Transfer) for laser-micro/nano-3D-printing with any available material on every possible surface or 3D-structure.

Beside there are some different lasers-types ... and much other related stuff smoking smiley

I was starting to build a CoreXY 3D printer though with the purchase of a pair of Anycubic Kobra 3's decided to turn it into a smaller version of my MPCNC.
Though like I say it is just too hot here, yesterday when temperature hit 106 with all the AC's running the inside went to 86.

I know that the Kobra 3 combos were so cheap that I could purchase the parts for the price for a DIY. Though my MPCNC build is mostly already paid for, so changing the size should be negligible.

Hopefully the temp stays below 100 then I can do more work inside with it,

All I did was sleep for hours. Under one of them.

I was...WAS doing a Makerbot Conversion to a coreXY Hbot, using off the shelf parts, but I got frustrated. That project is back on the shelf. I was going to dismantle it and store the parts, but rather than build a frame for the parts later, I'm going to just leave them in the original frame. They'll be ready to go when I get back around to that project.

I picked up an Ender 5 Plus, so I have something different to get frustrated with. lol..I've never had so much trouble getting a printer to print something all the way thru...this thing fails at some point on every print. Its used, its not stock, I get it...but wow..a couple of my 3D enthusiast friends are saying its underextruding. I tried following along with the how to videos to calculate it...but...ugh..So, I'm searching to find a config file that has similar hardware as a starting point.

My time is drawing short, and I will be returning to work soon, got to play and learn until then.. :-)

This Ender 5 Plus is currently setup on Klipper, it has a SKR Mini E3 V3 controller board, and a Biqu H2 Direct Drive extruder. If anyone has any insights that could enlighten my learning process...I'm all ears.. ;-)
