Purchasing in the UK

Hi All,

I'm very new to the RepRap community. Have been pushing ahead with my Prusa recently, buying up all the bits I need. I've spent most of today studying the electronics I need and think I'm getting a grasp of it all. I've decided to go for RAMPS 1.4 but I was wondering where people in the UK have been buying their RAMPS boards either pre-assembled or with the surface mounted components already in place?

Also, after reading around the subject, I would really like to go for GT2 belts/pulleys but it's near impossible to find them here... was wondering if anyone has had any luck? There might be a chance of getting GT3 belts - still 2mm pitch, but apparently a newer version of GT2. Anyone have an opinion on this?

Cheers!

GT2 is not easily avaiable in the UK. You would have to phone up suppliers and ask for them. T5 belts are easily available. www.beltingonline.com are very good and deliver quickly. They also do T2.5 if you want to go a little smaller pitch. The main problem with small pitch is that the gears would be a bitch to print on your reprap when you want a spare. T5 pulleys can be printed with a standard nozzle.

Ramps boards I couldn't find in the UK, but have ordered them a few times from www.Reprapworld.com in the Netherlands and they are quite prompt with delivery (About a week to the UK).

Thanks - I've come across reprapworld. They have a great board at €46 but then a whopping €20 delivery charge sad smiley. Seems a shame. I guess if there are no other options, I'm just going to have to do that.

Thanks again smiling smiley

You also need to add tax (vat) to any of there prices.

There was a few different people selling ramps 1.4 in the eu late last year but they seem to have vanished.

Dont bother with the diy kit from reprapworld as its a pain in the neck 3 of the leds were 0603 (damn small) and the headers where the wrong size (required sanding/filing). All in all it wasnt a pleasant expierence when I build the kit last november/december.

Thanks Joe for your input.

Does anyone have an opinion on HTD vs GT2 belts?

Cheers

Hi.
I been using T2.5 belts and aluminium gears for ages, well since i bouht my makerbot bits for a custom build years ago.
Beltingonline.com are a UK seller of t2.5 belts and are REALLY cheap for good quality belts, and they sell by length open lengths too.
If you are wanting to go ramps, i built my own kut, then moved straight onto sanguinolo boards, so i have it sitting around doing nothing, but if your undecieded, go with sang boards.

If you need any help, i will be happy to assist... email me direct npoate@hotmail.com

PS originally i bought GT2 belts from USA, and used them for few months before i got 2.5 from UK. They will do the same job as the sizes do not impact on the turning'ness' of the tooth gears.

This is the link for the belts i use (open ended) just plug in length and width required and the costs are there! [www.beltingonline.com]
