Very new to the RepRap Idea
October 11, 2011 09:33AM
Hi Folks,

I have only just heard about this amazing project and have been looking at quite a lot of stuff on the net etc, haven't not bought a kit yet, but will do in the next few weeks.
Any pointers to the best place for buying platics etc from?
Metric as I am in the UK.

Looking at the hot ends seems fun getting these has made me think about various ideas including ceramics etc for the Heat resisting properties.

Any pointers etc gratefully recieved.

Thanks.

I'm just about to place my orders (in the next day or so) for my prusa and I too am based in the UK.

I found thingfarm to be the best place for hardware kits, hotend kit and motors (once you take into account shipping from other places).
Electronics and PLA from reprapworld.
Plastics from nophead (he keeps selling out hence my delay in placing the orders).

Last calculation I did it worked out around £330 to £350 including delivery and vat on all parts. Of course it meant soldering RAMPS (saves about £25) and using 3 different suppliers, but every £ saved is a £ I can spend later on PLA and upgrades to bearings and brushings.

About to order myself, this is my BOM: [docs.google.com]

For now projected total of €447 including VAT & shipment.
