Estimated time to print a set of MendelMax 1.0 parts?
May 26, 2012 04:04PM
I'm looking to do a MendelMax 1.0 build. Have pretty much all needed except the printed parts.
I've loaded the file "Lower_Vertex_Lower.stl" into pronterface and got an estimated print time of 2 hrs 47 mins for the one part. To print on my Prusa. This slightly worries me, at this rate it could take quite a while to print out all the MendelMax parts.
(There are 4 of the lower vertices and I counted 74 parts in total, over about 30 different part types).

I need to decide between print myself or buy in ready printed.
I could load each of the STL files into pronterface, and add up the print times, but my slic3r settings may be out.

Anyone printed a full set of MendelMax 1.0 parts - and can indicate approx how many print hours it took?

Thanks in advance

Mike

Takes me a week to print a set of Prusa parts on a Sells Mendel

Really? It takes me about 24 hours to print a Prusa on my Mendel and it is pretty slow due it an aluminium bed and a big heatsink on the extruder.

NelsonRap,

Thanks for the reply. Any idea how many print hours that week represents?

If I print a few parts each weeknight and all day during the weekend, it takes me about a week to print a full set including X axis, Y carriage, and a Greg's Wades extruder. Thats with 40% infill on most parts and layer height of .25mm using a 0.50mm nozzle.

Somewhere around 20-25 hours I guess as I don't run it all day only in the mornings while I'm the only one home as the workshop is under the lounge and the noise comes up through the floor

I adjusted my slic3r settings for 'fast' , set to 40% infill on most parts and layer height of .25mm as per Mkouri's note above.
Loaded the files into pronterface and added up the estimated times:

Top_Vertex_X_4_off.stl 64 (ie 4 x 16 mins = 64 mins)
Lower_Vertex_Middle_4_off.stl 112
Z_Motor_Mount_2_off.stl 102
Y_Rod_Mount_2_off.stl 88
Top_Rod_Jig_70mm.stl 25
Top_Vertex_X_logo_optional.stl 21
Z_Rod_Lower_Mount_2_off.stl 88
Y_Rod_Setting_Jig.stl 7
Top_Vertex_Y_2_off.stl 34
LowerVertex_4_off.stl 84
Z_rod_clasp_4_off.stl 28
LowerVertex_cupcake.stl 18
Y_Idler_Mount.stl 14
Y_Motor_Mount.stl 41
Lower_Vertex_Lower.stl 85
Lower_Vertex_Upper.stl 67
Y_Rod_Clasp_4_off.stl 20

Total mins 898

So around 15 hours , excluding the extruder
If you add in an extruder, and go slower for some parts, 20-25 hours sounds a reasonable estimate.
