Is 12V and 1500mA enough to power a RepRap Prusa?

Is 12V and 1500mA enough to power a RepRap Prusa?

I require a power supply to power my already assembled RepRap Prusa. The guide I got with the PCB says that I need 12v 5A max to power the printer. I came across a 12v1.5A power supply at home, and I was wondering if I could use that?

I can't believe that is enough. Stepper motors draw potentially 1A each, then hotend requires another 2A and your heated bed needs like 10A at least. I don't know why there would be a MAX specification for current supply.

yea 5 amps would hardly be the minimum for a prusa without a heatbed.

Most of us aim for PSU's that can do up to 30 amps...

It would help if you said what PCB it was winking smiley

It sounds like it might be RAMPS which has a 12V 5A input, this is limited to 5A by a resettable fuse on the board. The 5A input is used to power motors and hot end but not the heatbed which has a seperate higher current 12V input.

A 1.5A PSU will not be enough though.
