Printing plate material

Hello RepRappers,

I am moving towards constructing my first Prusa Mendel printer.
The guides are awesome, but quite general regarding printing plates.

The question is: what material to use for the top and bottom plates of Prusa Mendel?

I do not want to have heated bed now.
Of course it would be best to use some easy-to-obtain and relatively cheap material that can be processed (cut) at home.

Please share some experience smiling smiley
Best,
Pawel

Dibond is light and stiff and very easy to cut and drill. You can also buy it cut to size.

I use MDF, mainly because I get it free from my job

Mine is just 10mm ply. The size of only 225 x 225 makes it easy to get a fairly flat piece and the heated circuit board and the glass on top also helps to flatten it all out.
