Failing at the first!

I am truly pulling my hair out....

I have built a Sunhokey Prusa i3 and that, it would seem was the easy bit!
I can't get my laptop to talk to the printer....

Ok... so the printer is running an MKS Gen-2Z V1.1 and I am running Windows XP (I know... Old!)
Anyway, I'm getting a timeout message when I try to load the firmware???

I'v attached a screen shot ^^^ of the error message...

Can anyone help me out?

Dave.

BTW, I also have a display with nothing but blocks??? I guess that will be fixed if/when I get the firmware loaded???

Ok, Now I'm not so sure it's the firmware???

In my Device Manager tree, under USB Controllers, I get a "USB Converter" This turns off when I unplug the lead to the Printer...
If I look at the driver, it all looks ok???

So, the printer display is not blank but where text should be, there are just blocks.... I have no communication between the printer and laptop....

I have checked, re-checked and checked again ALL of my connections and they are all correct.... then I checked again.....

I just cannot see why this is not working????

If anyone has ANY idea or has experienced the same state.... please do let me know????

Please attach the image, don't embed it in a word document.

Please go to this page to install fw:

Did you follow the steps outlined in the link above? I don't own the board but its ramps 1.4 compatible. The documentation says you need to download the updated driver, maybe that's why it can't connect. Make sure you pick the correct com port.

Ok....

Today, I got in from work and started to shoot a video to show the connections and what I am getting on the LCD....

Well.... It only started to work!!!???

I think it must have a bad connection.... maybe??? I am getting all the info and function on the screen, I can operate the motors and hot parts....
AND, it connects to the computer and runs on pronterface!

All of a sudden, I'm a happy boy again!...

Now, IF it keeps going, I will go though the calibration and see if I can't print something.....
