Hot End temperature cutout

Hello everyone, I just recently finished my prusa mendel, and have been consistently working on tuning my print quality. I switched from orange to natural abs, and realized that I need to raise the temperature for the natural abs. This is where I get a problem.

If I set my temp to 140C or higher, then my hot end will make it to that temp, overshoot it by about ten degrees, and then cut out completely until I set the temperature again. I can set my temp to 135C and my hotend will hold it to +or- 2 degrees for a whole print.

I am printing with an mk-v hotend, RAMPS 1.4, pronterface, slic3r, and sprinter.

Thank you ahead of time for the help!

I hope you mean 240°C and NOT 140°C since ABS doesn't melt at that temperature.

I don't know if sprinter has the feature, but Marlin has a MAX temperature in the firmware, where it'll shut down the hot end if it exceeds that temperature, I think the default is only 250.

YES that was it! Thank you. I feel stupid now because I changed the max from 275 to 250 way back when and forgot about it
