DIY hotend sock?

Hi,

I like the idea of the hotend cover from e3d. Since the days of the capton burrito around the hotend are over I was missing something to protect the heater block against cold air from the nozzlecooling fan. However I dont want/need to buy the new heater block just to be able to get the protective sock.

Therefore I was wondering if someone ever tried to make their own with silicone/ogoo/protoputty etc? I cant imagine that being to hard of a task especially if you have another heater block to use as a mold.

Cheers

If your using an E3D V6 hotend, the new socks fit the older blocks. Their newer blocks are only slightly longer for the thermistor cartridge, but the socks do fit quite well on the non-thermistor cartridge ones. I can't say if they'll fit a clone or not, but the older blocks and newer blocks both work great with the socks despite their comments of only fitting the newer heater blocks.
