Better Print Quality

Hello There,

I am new to the 3D printing scene and I just finished up building my Reprap Prusa i3. I have been printing a few things out but I've noticed that my prints are a little sloppy. I have adjusted a few settings but I am not quite sure what needs to be adjusted to get a solid and smooth 3D print. There are a lot of jagged ends and the object is not at all solid or smooth.

I am looking to get an object as smooth as possible. So far I have been adjusting Layer hight, infill density, infill pattern, and solid infill pattern.

I have attached links of a boat I printed out for reference. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Calibration guide [reprap.org]

Print quality troubleshooting [www.simplify3d.com] Yes the link is to simplify3d but you dont need the softwear to use the guide, gives really good advice with pitchers to help identify what problems you have

When I think of pitchers, I think of beer!
