Tightening The Frame Of Prusa I2
January 13, 2013 07:59PM
Hello, I am building a Prusa Mendel I2 using 6x 400mm long threaded rods and I am at the frame tightening step and I need to know if I am still suppose to use the 290mm jig? If the frame measurement is suppose to stay the same as with the 370mm rods then what was the purpose of making the rod length longer? Thanks for any replies to this post.

You can make the spacing any size that you want as long as they are all the same throughout your printer. Making the sizes bigger will make it possible to increase your build volume, but if you still use a standard Mendel bed size then there is not really a point to make it larger. One thing to keep in mind is longer rods make more opportunity for flex, and you will need to make sure that your smooth rods and z axis lead screws are long enough to accommodate for the larger printer. Your rods are only 3 centimeters longer than standard rods, so you probably won't have any issues regardless of the dimensions you choose.
