RepRapPro Mendel assembly question
February 12, 2013 01:17PM
Hello guys,

I've just received my RepRapPro Mendel full kit and started the assembly. The assembly instructions are good but a little short on images. Some details are only obvious after the assembly is done and in my opinion they should be perceptive before the assembly starts. Anyway it's a good set of instructions thou.

I've searched around the forum and it seems that no one else has had this problem/dough so it's perhaps my misinterpretation of the instructions so I'll pose the questions and wait for some kind soul to lead me ... smiling smiley

I've build the first part of the frame (triangles and 6 rods) and on the instructions is mentioned:

Try to get the measurements accurate. But it is more important to get the lengths equal than to get them precise.

All my lengths and measurements are fine but I don't seem to be able to have a 90 degree between the bottom triangle rods and the bottom x axis direction rods. It's not by many degrees, but it's still not square.

Is this a problem? Should I stop and try to correct or it's not an issue if the smooth rods supporting the heat bed and the z-axis smooths rods are aligned (square)?

Thanks.

Pedro.

Hi Pedro,

I would try and get everything as square as possible. It may be possible to correct when installing the smooth rods but it will make it more difficult.

Are the two triangles exactly the same size? If they are, you should be able to adjust the diagonal rod to square the base up.

I also found that small changes to the length of the top two threaded rods made a difference to how flat the base sat.

Good luck!

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply ...

The triangles are the same size, but I have not yet installed the diagonal rod. It´s my next step and from what you said, that should be enough to square things up. I'll see if that solves the problem.

Thanks again.

Regards.

Pedro

Hello,

It's square now ... the diagonal rod solve the problem ... moving on to next step ... I simply love to build stuff ... smiling smiley

Thanks for the help.

I built my RepRapPro Mendel before Christmas, and I thought the instructions were excellent.... One piece of good advice that was given to me was to make sure not to read ahead or second guess them.

Goog luck with the rest of your build!
