Extruded plastic sticking to nozzle
March 25, 2013 04:48PM
I just completed my Reprap Prusa printer. However, I am having a very hard time getting anything printed from it. As soon as plastic is extruded from the nozzle, the end gets stuck to the nozzle. As the print head moves around, it drags thie end of the plsatic around with it. Some of the plastic gets laid down correctly, but other times it also gets caught on the nozzle and the result is a big blob on the nozzle.

How can I prevent the first few millimeters of plastic from getting caught on the nozzle?

Wipe the nozzle with oil

What kind of oil? I have this issue too (I'd like to start a "I hate J heads club", but I'm guessing it's really user error...)

jrherita, A bit of 3-in-one or pretty much anything will act as a "release agent". Use whatever you have. Wipe it on with a q-tip or a bit of paper towel (sparingly). DO NOT spray it with WD-40.

avhon, just to be safe, check the orifice with a magnifier to make sure there aren't any tiny burrs in the orifice that the plastic is getting hung on.
