I am in the midsts of building my first reprap prusa i2. Every time I try to home of mor my Z axis past .1mm the axis does not move. It just makes alot of sound. I am using Pronterface and sprinter firmware. I can sucessfully move the Z axis up and down using the .1mm movement rate..

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Sounds like a limit switch. If you're using Opto's make sure the wires are connected to the swich properly.

I am actually using mechanical end stops, but I'll check the wiring.

Ok So I pulled the X carriage off to eliminate any mechanical problems. The Z motors only turn for a little bit then they stop. Same results. Is it possible I am not getting enought Amps out of my driver (Step Stick) to power 2 motors?

It's possible but if that where the case they probably wouldn't move at all, or just make some noise.

I had to change some stepper motors out from Nema17 motors to the Soyo 6V .8A motor just to get stuff moving on my most recent project, those motors just kinda chattered from being underpowered.

I don't know why but I couldn't adjust the Pot on the PCB, it just keeps spinning, I also think that some of these step-sticks are rated less or are fake copies, 2A per coil max my $##.

Any recommendations on a decent supplier of step sticks? All I seem to see are negative reviews.

I am using nema 23 size motors for my Z axis as my build bed is quite large. In order to power them, I'll be using the driver available here: [www.massmind.org] This driver will run 4 amps all day with a peak of 4.5 amps according to the data. You will have to solder it your self, 25 watt irons are fine, and they are a bit more costly than step sticks for sure. But they will A. handle heavy duty motors, and B, have logic protection at power on that avoids the problem of the mid priced drivers which occasionally (eventualy) blow themselves up due to an inherent design issue.hot smiley The main chip is brought in in batches. I ordered when they were sold out and still received my kit in a week and a half or so.
