Extruder question

A question for Adrian or Ed: Does the filament guide half of the extruder still need to have the sloping channel now that the motor is offset? I thought the idea was that the filament path would be straight.

i just opened the file on subversion and it still has the sloped channel. i imagine it wont make much of a difference, but will allow bendable material to be used easily.

It's an evolutionary artifact, like an appendix. If it's healthy you can leave it. If its causing you pain, take it out.

I plan to mill mine so it's easier for me to leave out if it's not required.

Well I made it without and I now think it it required to allow you to insert a new piece of filament when the old one runs out. Perhaps a shallower incline would be better for this.
