RepStrap success in 2D

I have a working 2D part of a RepStrap (holding off on the 3rd D since I want to play with lasers)! Did the first successful run yesterday, writing with a Sharpie, including a slightly distorted fractal. This thing is so nifty! Thanks to all who have designed and helped getting me here.

Obligatory YouTube video.

I suppose I need to adjust the power use, at the moment they just go at full power and make the drivers overheat when not in use -- even though I have the whole frame as a heat sink.

Anyone know good places to look for cutting lasers (starting simple, CO2 lasers are a little much for now)? I have found a 150mW blue LED laser (i hug and kiss LEDs), but that doesn't appear to go beyond very thin film.
