Extruder gears

My extruder stopped working properly. Up until now I was able to use the extruder to print and do it from pronterface. Now when I try to hit the extrude button on pronterface the gears don't move. It is not a temperature issue because if I physically move the gear it extrudes. I am using a wades extruder with PLA plastic

Does the motor shaft turn? If so check the set screw on the small gear. If not check the motor wires. If it's still a problem swap the extruder to the X axis and see if it moves. If it does swap stepper controllers. If that's not it check the driver board connections.

If it was the set screws, you are far from the first one to run into the problem.....

I had something similar about a month ago.

The print would start OK, but after about 5 layers it would stop extruding.

The grub screw was loose on the extruder motor.

I guess perhaps as everything warmed up the plastic cog expanded and then it would start to slip. But it had me fooled for a while as I thought it was an problem with the stepper driver or the motor overheating
