Sticking to head (PLA) and pulling print off bed
January 17, 2014 12:53PM
Does aanyone know what setting I can change in slic3r or firmware that will make the start and jumps start with zero material added with just the right amount of filiment immediatly after. My print is starting of early with too much material that ouzes up into the head and sticks to it for remainder of print. Alternatievely, the filiment will come out too late and curl from the movement. My layer height is perfect though?? how can i adjust the amount coming out or retraction?

Hi,

For starters, it looks like the first layer is too high. Take a bit of time working on your bed leveling to correct this. Second, make sure that you clean (scrub) your bed with acetone just before your print. This will ensure that you get a good stick. Try these things out and you may get completely different results.

Cheers,

Definately looks like the first layer is too high as KDog suggested. I don't recommend scrubbing the blue tape with acetone though since that'll damage the tape surface and degrade the adhesive that holds it to the print bed. Make sure your bed is level and then adjust the nozzle height so it's very close. A piece of standard printer paper should fit between the nozzle and print bed but should slide back and forth just enough to where the paper won't scrunch when pushing forward. Before you do anything though, you need to check and then double check that the bed is level! Once you level it properly, you can adjust the nozzle height by moving the endstop switch or turning the adjustment screw. If that's done correctly, then PLA will happily stick to the blue tape. So much so that I've actually broken two glass printbeds while trying to remove objects from the blue tape.

I agree. But high by how much? If I get 0.1mm closer the filiment will flay from the proximity.

However, there must be some slic3r adjustments that are applicable? the bed is reasonably level already.

Have you ever put a negitive (-) number after the "minimum travel after retraction" ? what is your value?

Acetone is not sufficient always - use proper hand dish washing soap and very carefully drying it.
