Getting PLA to stick to bed

Getting PLA to stick to bed
February 06, 2014 10:13AM
Hi all I,ve just got printing, and had some ok results, and some awful results. My problem is getting the PLA to stick throughout the print.
it either wont stick at all and just balls up on the extruder, or will do for a few layers, but then one end starts to twist away from the bed.
I am extruding first layer at 190 c and have the bed set at 65 c then Ive tried turning it down to 50, 40, 25 etc. Also tried hairspray with the bed hot and cold.
It seems I must have heat on to get anywhere.
The hair spray I used was a soft version. (It was all I could pinch from my wife).

Any help gratefully received.

When i print pla my bed is between 60-70. You could also try increasing the nozzle temp to 200 for the first layer. I do all my pla print at 200 for all layers.

You could also try diluting elmers white glue in water. 30% elmers 70% water then paint it on and let it dry and run the bed at 50c to 70c that has worked very well for me.

This question has been asked so many times, and every time there's different responses. Personally, I print PLA on cheap picture frame glass coated in PVA (elmers glue) at 55C. It works. So far it works extremely well. It sticks like glue until the printbed temp falls below 40C and then it comes off with ease. I used to recommend blue painter tape without turning on the heated bed, but after my experience with a PVA coated bed I can no longer recommend that. If you get it right, you'll no longer have to replace the tape after every print and you won't have to spotlessly clean the print bed after every print either, just wipe it down with a lint-free cloth.

Great stuff guys, running with (UHU) pva glue watered down to 30 parts pva to 70 parts water. The parts so far are sticking great,
Thanks for the tip.

I get great results printing PLA on a glass bed heated to 60 and treated with ABS goop. I don't know why it works so well but it does. In fact my biggest problem with ABS is adhesion to the bed but not with PLA!
