hi reprappers

anybody who has a suggestion where to get reasonably priced wire for 3d printing?

world market prices of abs are about 1400 euro / metric tonne, so the prices asked for abs 3d printing wire are way to high.
i think a reasonable price would be around 2 - 4 euro / kg

we're building a new repstrap and want to use thin (1 - 2 mm) abs or nylon wire.

Eh, $1400 Euro per tonne works out to be $1.4 Euro per Kg, that sounds very reasonable

I'd need to check to see who the popular suppliers are, ?village plastics?, but I'd suggest a group order with fellow .nl countrymen, ordering from the United States.

I went to ebay.com and typed in plastic welding rods.

Hope it helps, however shipping may prove to drive the cost too high.

We have dedicated extruders for welding rod supplies of ABS, PP and other resins and can make available 2-3mm rods for printing applications provided order volumes are around 100 kgs and above.
Any other special materials also can be processed and provided.
Thanks

It seems if you live in the US then Polypropylene (similar to ABS in melting point) is the way to go. It can be attained on Ebay from Elemental Obtainium's Store and it is about 2.30 USD per pound shipped anywhere in the continental US. Also you can buy it in quantities as low as 20lbs which seems much more manageable than a ton or 100 kgs.

Just FYI, I've just taken delivery of 150kg of ABS from China. See this thread.

The process went OK. It would have taken a couple of months to set up if I'd been in a hurry and the tolerances aren't that tight, but I think the filament is perfectl usable. EXW price was $3.09/kg, and shipping to Switzerland DDU was $5.20/kg.

Cheers,

Leo
