USB to TTL

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted some clarification about using a USB to TTL converter for communication between the computer and the motherboard. I am currently using Pololu USB-to-Serial Adapter USB01B found here:

On the reprap webpage:

it says that pin 3 is VCC. I was wondering if by that they mean Vdd (+3.3V) or Vbus (+5V).

Also does the ribbion cable have to be 700mm long? Can I shorten it?

you want 5v. all the reprap electronics run at 5v, except the SD card interface on the motherboard

you can shorten the cable if you want, remember to keep the pinout correct
