e3d-v6 assembly

Hi I got my e3d-v6 hot end today
the hole on the top of the hot end is much larger than 1.75mm filament

do I need to put anything in?
I am using direct extruder now bowden, how will the filament reach the heat break if it is wider than the filament?
another question, when using Ferrules , I didn't bend any of the wires, just put them inside and tightened it, will it be durable this way? does Ferrules made of conductive material ?(if thats true the problem is solved)

The heatbreak is the metal tube that connects your heater block and your heatsink. Not the PTFE tube that you have in your hand. The filament will travel down the hole at the top of the heatsink, and will be go through the heatbreak and in to your heater block.

I assume you mean you're not using a bowden setup. In that case, you are good to go. You don't need the PTFE tube if you're not using a bowden setup. The hole is not too big, it will work.

Edit: My apologies, Emadine is right. It is recommended that you insert the shorter PTFE tube into the heatsink. My v6 didn't come with a short PTFE tube so I assumed it was for Bowden only.

Thanks
another question, what should I do after I finish printing ?should I extruder back the filament or just leave it as is?

Depends on your filament. I've heard of people having problems leaving it in there, but as far as I am aware a majority don't have an issue. I never have, and I always leave it in there.

For v6. The heatsink is universal. For Bowden or direct. U have to insert the ptfe tube into the heatsink until it reach the stainless steel heat break. And use the black colour collet to lock the tube in place. Then u will have a 2mm ID. please refer to the e3d site for instruction.

Hi, I have asked this question in the original topic about E3D however I was unable to get an answer: Can I modify the legth of the E3D? My old hotend measures 78 mm and I cannot use a shorter hotend because my X axis is at the lowest position. If I inserted a shorter hot-end, there would be a gap between the tip of the hot end and the heated bed (I assume this could only be possible if the heat break can be held in place without being fully assembled).

Thanks...

You just need to change Z home pos - or is the Z carriage physically unable to go lower? If that is the case then it would need a part printed to extend it or alteration of the extruder.

Seems like a trivial task to design/print a hotend extender, but what do I know.....

Yes, the Z carriage is physically unable to go lower due to the Z endstop holder. I might have to change its position.

Hello,

it's not possible to change the length of E3D hotend, if you don't squeeze well each of the parties and leave gaps between them will jam the filament.

Only solutions are changing Z- endstop position or change extruder carriage to one that let you level it up and down.
